Abstract. Studies carried out in 2001-2002 concerned six cultivars and two inert substrates. Yielding of the following cultivars: ‘Lazuryt F1’, ‘NOE 335 F1’, ‘NOE 361 F1’, ‘NOE 1024 F1’, ‘NOE 3001 F1’ was compared to the control cultivar ‘Pasamonte F1’. Agroban rockwool and Dynamite polyphenol foam were used as substrates. The best yield was obtained from: ‘Lazuryt F1’, ‘NOE 335 F1’, ‘NOE 361 F1’ and ‘NOE 3001 F1’, and the worst from ‘Pasamonte F1’. The substrates proved to be good ones for growing short large wart cucumber. Dynamite proved to be a better substrate.

Summary
In the years 2001-2002 a study was carried out on six cultivars of short large wart cucumber grown in two inert substrates in a greenhouse. The following cultivars were tested: ‘Lazuryt F1’, ‘NOE 335 F1’, ‘NOE 361 F1’, ‘NOE 1024 F1’, ‘NOE 3001 F1’ and ‘Pasamonte F1’. As a substrate Agroban rockwool and Dynamite polyphenol foam were applied. Fertigation technique was used in cultivation.
On the basis of the results, differentiation in yielding of the cultivars was found. The best yield produced the cultivars: ‘Lazuryt F1’, ‘NOE 335 F1’, ‘NOE 361 F1’ and ‘NOE 3001 F1’. Their yields were on a similar level. The lowest yield: total (22.52 kg·m-2), commercial (22.45 kg·m-2) and 1st choice (21.49 kg·m-2) was obtained from the control cultivar Pasamonte F1, and it was significantly lower than that of the remaining cultivars. The rockwool Agroban and Dynamite foam substrates proved to be good ones for growing short large wart cucumber, however, Dynamite substrate was better.
